Trivial Memories- The Fire Eater

I wasn't sure whether to post this, as I seemed to cover this trivial memory subject with my 'butcher' picture. So this will be the last of these. Any others I do for myself will be a bit repetitive for POL. I've posted this because I do know why I remember this incident, it was part of growing up, part of that time for me when girls stopped being a pain in the neck and suddenly became interesting. All very confusing. It occurs to me that as these circuses travelled the country, many others will have heard his spiel and seen his act...and maybe have the same memory. So...not the memory I was hoping for, but it's stuck in my noggin anyway.

I remember the Circuses well....but being female not quite the same memory Lew. Super drawing.

Super drawing. we didn't have fire eaters but we did have the scariest clowns ever. Apparently I cried all the way through and had to be taken home.

Great drawing, as usual, Lewis. Interesting how some childhood memories stay so long with us, whilst others disappear into...where???

I remember something simular that comes under the heading of too good to be true. Trying to impress some local girls as young boy soldiers at the local fair. One of us bet we could beat the old battered faced boxing pro over two rounds and win a fiver and only pay two Bob! Of course we were on a loser. Head held in a head lock pummeled by the right hand and the referee announcing "Go On Son You Can Do It" Needless to say we never won a penny and the Girls were gone. It was the last time I went in the ring! Thank you Lewis. I had forgotten that episode.

Two Bob? That was four mars bars!

Thanks for your comments. Chris...there was a boxing booth sideshow with this circus. I never tried that. It was indeed 4 or more Mars Bars Tony, we'd imagined it to be well worth it...turned out it wasn't. Life ehh?

Great memory Lew , we had the same type of circus visits to and also got in to young, but you still remember ☺️

Thanks for the morning smile Lew. Great story and pic

Great art work, Lewis, and such fond memories!!

Great facial expressions Lewis and characterisation.

Brilliant illustrations Lewis and I love the backstory behind it.

What a great tale Lewis…….brilliant!

Superb rendition of a memory.

Just brill, love it.

A great memory Lewis. I cannot remember seeing fire eaters at the circus so that certainly would stick in your memory!

I too remember fire-eaters. Apparently the yellower the flame, the cooler it is. Love seeing your memories!

I'll do the intro as a comment, it may not go in this section. The drawings are watercolour and coloured pencil, text added in photoshop.

Self taught. Love drawing. Like to make pictures up, without using reference pics, often in cartoon style. I do other pictures where I do use reference. I'm knocking on a bit, born in 1940 in Greenwich, London. Retired, and loving it.
