Colin Steed Artist & tutor. Your perseptive, colour and tone look very good Dave. I suspect you have more foreground shadow than the photo shows which does help to give that feeling of light. The large tree on the left could have been darker. You have correctly used a cool blue colour for your distant trees. May be a tone lighter would help the feeling of depth at that point. As for placing your figures? Well the mother and child could have been positioned nearer to the building with the dark brown gable end. That would have created a real phocal point. Having said that your choise of colours are excellent and I love the painting very much. Well done Dave.,

Dave Ettridge sent in his version of the painting project saying: 'I am attempting each Painting Project from Leisure Painter magazine and while this particular project is not my favourite subject, I hope to learn from it. I decided to keep this painting small ( 10 X 15cm ) I used a No 4 sable brush as this keeps a fine point, initially I over painted the tree on the left side and had to dilute it, then take some of the paint up with a tissue. I also have a problem placing people in this type of painting, therefore I need to practice this more.'
