Nice sketch Michael. The expressions say it all....

You have caught the expressions of concentration mingled with fear and wonder brilliantly. A great piece of social history Michael.

This is a sketch telling a story. Excellent.

Like it Michael. You've got the apprehension on the men's faces. I must admit whenever I saw these deadly props they set the old nerves a-jangle.

Thanks Stephen and Lewis.

I agree! Gannets were dangerous beasts as I remember from my days in Ark Royal. I saw one guy blown through the propellor arc and was unhurt! An excellent painting!

Naval Airmen Aircraft Handlers Wright and Paice, Gannet nose arm team, Flight Deck Party. 6B pencil. From a photo from the 70s. What strikes me as relevant is the look of complete focus on the faces of the two lads as they watch the director in front of them and the lethal whirring props a few feet behind them. This is a look of ‘survival’. Having done chocks on Gannets myself and towed them hundreds of times by tractor, the word that comes to mind is an unpleasant emotion caused by the threat of danger, pain, or harm, I.e. ‘fear’.
