Lovely work... And from the county of my own grandfather.. Nice..

Lovely painting Michael great light and colour

Thanks Alan and Dennis. You know I admire your work Dennis and your work is free and exciting Alan, just like a Roscommoner should be. I'm going to do some more Kilronan pieces soon, including traditional media. I know you promote the sketch pad Alan. The iPad is another good pre-work tool.

Digital media. I have visited this part of Ireland several times. It was the home of my great grandfather, John McManus, who came to Durham in the 1850s. He was born next to Lough Meelagh in the village of Keadue, which is in the parish of Kilronan. The overall evidence suggests that this location was a place of cultural, economic, ritual and political importance through time. The east end of Lough Meelagh was important in prehistoric and medieval times. However, this importance wanes somewhat from the 15th century onwards. On the right side of the image, in the lough, is a Crannog - a small island on which were fortified residences. According to the evidence, this seems to have been the fortified residence of the McManus lord of Ti Tuathail (now identified as the present parish of Kilronan). I'm proud to have both YDNA and written evidence that these were my McManuses.
