Michael, you’ve met some interesting and rich characters in your life. The lady herself, and her warning, must have made an impression for you to have been inspired to paint this wonderful portrait. I love the way you have painted her hair and headscarf.

A young Irish gypsy girl I met at Ballinasloe Horse Fair who told me, ‘Don’t buy a greyhound off Jim Morris and don’t bother praying ‘cause no one’s listening’. How true, I thought and crossed her palm with a silver Euro. Oil on mount board.

I was born in 1946. In the 1960s and part of the 70s I was an airman in the Royal Navy, Fleet Air Arm. I joined Durham Constabulary in 1971.
