Still Water
This is an inner part of Dysart Harbour on the East Coast of Scotland, depicted on a quiet evening as the light fades. The water is very still, reflecting the colours of the sky. A half-dozen working boats are moored along the harbourside. I was aiming for a forlorn atmosphere if forlorn's the right word - end of an era as much as end of a day. I concentrated on contrasts: lights/darks, bright and dull colours, smooth and rough textures. Believe it or not, I think I was more pleased with the way the dirty, crumbling stonework turned out than I was with any other part of the painting.
