A3 size (final trim - 373mm x 262mm) watercolour of my mother-in-law from a photo taken in the last year of her life. It's a happy memory for all the family and will be framed especially for my husband. I am enjoying this way of painting that I have developed for my portraits - bright flat colours, strong patterns, but features in soft realistic detail. Though, it is quite an awkward technique painting colour around patterns, but I feel it lends spontaneity along with the bright contrasting and roughly applied background.
