Lovely painting Julie. Colours and composition are really nice.

A really lovely composition Julie! The jug is floating indeed because it's not on the tray. I have been trying to find a solution and the only thing that would perhaps work is to cover the tray with a darker brown to hide it. If nothing else helps you can cut out the shapes and make a collage! Let's see if somebody finds a better way to rescue your beautiful painting.

Lovely piece, Julie. The palette is super here.

Nice work Julie, sorry haven't any tideas about the floating jug

I wouldn't have noticed the jug but now you mention it, perhaps you could wash out the brown at the bottom of the jug a little and give it a dark blue base rim leaving that small strip of white next to the tea cup which would make it appear to be sitting on the tray? I love the colours and composition, good still life!

Lovely still life - don't worry about the jug - little surprises like that in a painting make it interesting and unique. (P.S. Artists never make 'mistakes' they just have unique interpretations, lol!)

Thank you all for your kind and helpful comments. We had a laugh at my art group about the floating jug. I did have an attempt at solving the problem and it looks a little better - but Thea, I really like your idea of artists having unique interpretations!!

Just found this lovely painting Julie as my iPad is behaving itself this morning and I was able to navigate back. The colours are beautiful and, like Louise, I wouldn't have noticed the floating jug, we are always so critical of our own work aren't we. Perhaps you could place a large slice of chocolate cake in front of it to go with the cuppa!

Hi Julie. Why don't you taper the bottom of the jug inwards, thus creating a shaddow which would connect the jug and anchor it to the tray. Know what I mean??? I have a jug this shape at the back of my party food painting if you have a look. Lovely painting and as it is, it has a touch of the Shirley Trevena about it! Thank you for your comment on my drawing, by the way!

This little painting as composed of different bits and pieces rather than a set still life. I sort of invented as I went along. The only problem I have with it is that the jug appears to be floating!

About the Artist
Julie Bosley

I drifted into painting following four years of City and Guilds creative Embroidery where I found I was enjoying the back-up art work almost more than the embroidery. I did an A level in art and design in 2006, and then joined a life painting class. For the last three years I have belonged to a…
