I'm so glad you have tried a palette knife, it's great to use and the result is often succesful like here now. Good, strong colours and the poppies look great. Well done Julie!

I agree with the measures! Let us have metric sizes!!!

Away with you and your metric sizes! I was taught in feet, inches, yards, miles - and just can't visualize metric measurements at all, nor yet convert them.... It's me age, you see............ Palette/painting knives are very liberating, and offer so many possibilities - Abraham Fisher's wonderful paintings, the paintings of the late R O Dunlop RA (which you seldom see these days), and, of course, yours! Lovely, juicy reds.

I really like this painting Julie- it jumps out at you from the gallery. You have a great eye for colours. Still working on that photoshopping !

I agree with Beverley, it jumps out at you from the gallery, a lovely painting

Really like this Julie, strong darks and beautiful bright colours. I keep thinking about having a go with knives...bought them, just haven't tried them yet!!

Lovely colours and contrast.

I really like this Julie, I must try painting with a palette knife too, I'm sure it's quite liberating!

Thank you all for your kind and encouraging comments. I really enjoyed painting this, and have also completed another one that I will post in the next few days,

This is my first real attempt at using a palette knife and I really enjoyed the experience and hope to do some more. I took a photograph of the poppies before one of the many rainstorms wrecked them! Since photographing this painting I have added a little more yellow/orange just below and to the left of the poppy in the middle, which has created more of a flow through the painting It measures 16"x12". Why don't materials manufacturers make everything in metric sizes??
