John --- this is Derbyshire to a T --a little bit of magic this one --well painted. --- I live in the outskirts of Nottingham nowdays ( Derbyshire side ) and travel to Rowsley to visit the large wholesale art warehouse. we do on the way pass through Darley Dale were Geoff Kersey lives. Brilliant painter this man with a wonderful wet in wet techique. --- I think I'm a little bit in your boat John -- Due to spondolosis of the spine and two very bad arthritic knees I only manage to walk about ten yards --- I don't let this bother me, I still like to get out into Derbyshire on a photo shoot. Okay I can't get far -- so I call what I paint,-- By the side of road----All the best John and I hope you get on okay with the knee. ------ Give us a clue to what area you live in

A beautiful painting John

A beautiful painting John

Oh John, this is a beautiful watercolour. You have mastered the wet in wet tree's in the backgound, I also like the infusion of the red. Actually I love everythng about it!

Yes indeed - a real beauty

I have been to a couple of Geoff's workshops and this has a real flavour of his work, well done!

I thought that it was a pastel at first because of the softness you have managed to get in the scene. I like this very much :)

Thanks to everyone who commented. I have just returned to painting after an enforced absence, so it might be a short while before I get 'my hand in' again. I still have this one on the wall! Cheers

John, thank you for your very generous comment on winter willows. All praise should however, go to Mr Wesson, I only attempted to emulate his genius! I hope you are getting on well with your return to painting after an absence. I look forward to seeing and commenting on your work on the gallery, as are many others I’m sure. I’ll look out for you. Best wishes Fiona

Thank You Fiona. I think if you can emulate that well, you must have a lot of talent to utilise, in finding your own style. Something I have yet to do; at this end of my journey I paint because I love to do so. Don't stop painting... Regards John.

John, I’ve just had another browse through your gallery, it’s superb! This one is still my favourite I think, everything just works. Thank you for your comment, you are very kind and I really appreciate you taking the time to look and comment. I hope you are feeling much better and eager to get back in to art, I look forward to seeing your work on the gallery once again. Take care x

'Snowfields in Derbyshire' Adapted from a work by Geoff Kersey; after attending a Demo given by him. I felt the subject had just the right amount of realism, without being too photographic. It measures about 16" x 10" and because it's an 'After' it stays on my wall for my own edification!

About the Artist
John Walker

I have painted most of my life. Childhood Christmases usually found a box of watercolours in my 'stocking'. I left school in 1954 and within 6 months I had enlisted in the Royal Navy, starting at the infamous HMS Ganges, near Shotley, Suffolk. Artists country yes, but no time for such things while…
