Oil on canvas board. 16 x 12 Inches (40.6 x 30.5 cm). This is the container ship Fort St. Pierre passing the beach at Honfleur on one of the warmest days of summer 2014. The little figures along the water's edge are all school children supervised by their teachers. The figure in yellow and red in the centre of the picture is the lifeguard who has asked the teachers to bring the children out of the water as after the ship passes there will be a wake hitting the beach. The reason the ship looks so close is no trick, it is close. The Siene at this point has a deep channel and the beach is retained by a submerged wall. This leads to some strange sights around high tide.
