Really well done .. I can understand your desire to give up but so glad you didn't!

So delicate and beautiful John. I’m also very glad you persevered!

Such interesting shapes. Well captured John. I can see why you were attracted to it

This is excellent John.

This is superb and very skilfully done.

Just love it John. I agree pen and ink (my main medium) when doing fine work can make you very frustrated, however your end result is quite exquisite. I collect shells !

This is first class work, John. I’m big fan of pen and ink too, for me, the why did I bother feeling kicks in when I start to use stippling. Trouble is, I really admire stippling. My problem is impatience. You’ve made a really fine drawing here.

Your shell is terrific John! Your delicate pen work has captured the solid and hard form.

Thanks everyone for your kind words and encouragement, it made the effort worthwhile.

Beautiful, delicate drawing John.

Thank you Hilary

It would make a good design for a shell plate.

Thanks Tanja. A good idea. I often think of how drawings might present themselves as designs for objects.

I was on a call recently with a previous work colleague catching up on our post retirement activities. He happened to mention he had a fondness for collecting shells and clocks. He sent me a photo of a sea snail, Chicoreus orchifloris, that is only an inch in length but has an incredibly spiny shell. Using the photo as a reference I created this pen and ink sketch. Half way through I wondered why I had embarked on this task…….but carried on. Perhaps next time I’ll ask him to send a photo of a clock :)
