Super painting and subject John. I love the way you’ve painted the hedge he’s already layered.

Captured and painted so well John.

Happy New Year to you John! You’ve said so much in your painting…..love it. Enjoy your day and be careful of the sharp end.😉

Lovely to see this traditional profession portrayed as a painting. Using a billhook is an art, I use one myself for hedging, and on occasions a chainsaw.

Thank you Tessa, I'm really pleased you like it, thanks so much for your comment :)

Much obliged Chris ;)

Thank you Fiona, yup, I'm determined to stay out of the accident book this weekend :)

Hi Carol, to appreciate the art in Hedge laying you really need to have tried to do it... as you have! It's hard work and very rewarding as well as deserving to be the subject of a painting

Love the way you’ve painted this. I can’t get away from my small brushes so I’m jealous and inspired at the same time.

Hi Andrew, many thanks for your comment and I’m so pleased you like the painting! Those cursed tiny brushes have their place but can be a curse when we can’t let them go - best of luck 😄

Excellent work John , I spent many happy hours hedging it so worthwhile and hard graft .

Happy New Year John, I like your painting !

Thanks Dixie! I’ve only done it twice but I hope you didn’t have as many accidents as me 😳😆

Valerie, thank you so much, I’m delighted you like it ☺️🥳😜

Super painting John. I used to lay hedges back in the 60’s and 70’s, but back then we didn’t wear the head gear and I suffered a thorn in the eye once - very painful!

Just count your finger at the end of each session , if all present despite the odd cuts it’s a good day and a great experience, still have all mine after fifteen years of hedging and forestry.

Hi Frank! That sounds very painful and having had several blackthorn stabwounds I can see how easy that would have been! I got stabbed in the bum cheek and on my head as well as nearly chopping the end of a finger off when I rummaged in my bag and accidentally found my billhook! I definitely wear all the protective gear now 😎😎😎

How good is this! And a Happy New Year to you too.

Hi again Dixie- do you still lay hedges? I really enjoy it and I’m loving the forestry work too although I’m only just chainsaw qualified (cross cutting and maintenance) I might do the small tree felling training with a view to doing some forestry work as well as the volunteer conservation stuff I do now 😎😄🥳

Thanks Heather! I’m so grateful for your kind comment 😎😎😎

Super painting John.

Many thanks George 🙏🏼

Thanks Maureen 🙏🏼

This is Frank. A Hedgelaying guru and genius as well as a very nice chap! I’m going on my third Hedgelaying training day on Saturday so I thought I’d do this little study to get limbered up. It’s 20 x 20 cm and took about two and a half hours. Happy new year my friends
