The colors are just stunning, it is like he is lighted up from within. Like it is a portrait of the spirit of the stag more than the stag itself...

Thank you very much everybody. The colours are my basic palette, raw sienna, burnt sienna and raw umber, usually I would also include a blue but havent in this one. I did use an additional yellow, cadmium, to strengthen the golden look. My usual method, painting a layer of absorbent ground over the gesso and using the acrylics very, very wet. Most of the white is the white ground but have used a little white acrylic here and there.
