This is fabulous Jenny, everything about it is right; the colours, the composiion and the atmosphere..... says it all!! Brill!!

Great atmospheric painting, Jenny. I agree with Fiona: I like the warm, glowing colours, etc... Very well done.

Thank you for posting this Jenny. It really shows me what can be done with Hastings boats. You have managed to get a lovely glow -I've never seen Hastings look so good.

So atmospheric and lovely colours used too. those boats are amazing :)

Looks like a watercolour then you see the detail on the boats, awesome!

That is utterly gorgeous! I never quite got the hang of watercolour techniques (with acrylic or watercolour); I think it's one of the least forgiving modes of painting. Your technique glows with light. I ove the ambiguity of the foreground. Quite Turneresque.

Thank you Fiona and Mia. Thank you Carol, I do love Hastings and I love the working boats, my Husband doesn't quite 'get it', he says the Stade is a mess.............the wee figure in this painting is him, striding away, bored to tears with waiting for me, LOL. I admit to leaving out the clutter on the beach - have seen better artists than me do lovely things with the clutter, the cages and pots and nice bits of chunky rope and bundles of net etc. Thank you Sarah and Paul. Thank you Amanda, I am not good with watercolour either - havent had the nerve to put any of my (bad) watercolours on here. I bought acrylics to try and tried using them like oils but didn't like them, they aren't as sexy as oils. I didn't like them till I started using them very, very wet, now I love them - I can do things I cannot do with w/c or oils.

Really lovely sky and reflected colour. Beautiful detail in the boats Jenny.

Hi Jenny, love the boats and the atmosphere you have created. Shame you didn't try the clutter in the foreground or maybe just part of it. If not clutter then some form of substrate texture, as this I think would have added to the realism of the subject. However, did like the addition of your husband, he gave it a form of character. Keep them coming. Fancy adding any of your subject photos to the free gallery for others to try, the results could be interesting, I would give it a try.

Hi Jenny this is fantastic, wonderful colour and light :-)

Thank you Pat and Andrea. Thank you Peter, I didn't include the clutter partly because I wanted the boats to be the focus of attention so I kept everything else as loose and vague as possible - apart from Himself, he is like a full stop at the end of a sideways exclamation mark, LOL. I only take photographs as a memory aid, I plan the painting in my head while I am at the scene so I know how I want to do it and later I can remember what I thought when I was there, the photos are only for getting details correct and then I discard them. Wouldn't be any use to anyone else anyway, there were at least 15 boats and a few nice bits of clutter amongst piles of litter and a lot of very unattractive crap - all in a poor quality, very overcrowded photo.

A truly lovely painting

To use that rather American word - this is awesome work. Fantastic light with superb haziness which reminds me of early morning light on the beach. Just superb.

Thank you Glennis, Chris and Thea for your kind comments

This is my favourite of all your boats. Colours, composition ... great.

Absolutely superb, Jenny!

Thank you Gudrun and Seok, glad you like it

Hi Jenny, love all your works in the gallery, think this is one of my favorites. It has so much atmosphere!!
