A lovely pastel, you have achieved so much texture in the fur.

Lovely vibrant piece! You've really captured the moment!

Beautiful pastel painting and so realistic.

Beautifully done - lovely fur and super colours.

Very nice piece...

This is lovely Jenny.

Thank you so much everyone for your kind comments. Most unexpected and very encouraging!

A real beauty of a picture

how did you do it!!!!! It's amazing would you say pastal is easier than watercoulor as i am planning to paint a squirell myself

We have reds down here on the Isle of Wight, too; and last year, they guzzled an entire crop of hazelnuts in my landlord's garden. But you can't help forgiving them. I find them hard to draw, because the little swine won't stay still - so congratulations on capturing this chap.

Thank you again everyone. Yes, Ella, I find pastel easier for fur and usually use pastel pencils for the fine detail. Sometimes I use a watercolour base and add pastels on top. I also enjoy doing animals and birds in coloured pencil.

Wildlife paintings my favourite.Really like yours Jenny , well done!!!

These busy creatures are often seen near Keswick in the Lake District, where I run workshops at the Cumberland Pencil Museum. I love using Derwent pastel pencils and blocks to create fur. See www.jennyhillart.co.uk for some step by step projects
