A wonderful painting. I actually find this sort of detail easier with pencils but this is outstanding.

I was lucky enough to go to South Africa and saw this eagle owl near Cape Town. He was quite fierce as his nest was nearby. I drew him on black paper in Derwent Drawing Pencils, which come in lovely natural colours. I also saw another family of eagle owls with a chick in Kirstenbosch Gardens. So cute, just a big bundle of fluff! They were nesting quite close to the ground in a hollow tree. See www.jennyhillart.co.uk for a step by step version of this owl
