I like all your posts today, Jennifer...especially this great character.

Like this a lot too Jennifer

Another really interesting character beautifully painted Jennifer. Fantastic uses of wet in wet.

I think you should acknowledge the source of your inspiration. This is looks like the well-known photograph of Henry Freeman, a Whitby lifeboatman, by the Victorian photographer Frank Meadows Sutcliffe.

Great character Jennifer, well painted. And yes, for sure Charles Reid was one of the very best and will be sorely missed.

Trevor Johnson, I thank you for enlightening me about this. I painted it from a black & white photocopy from the Crantock Bay Hotel when I was on one of Charles Reid's courses some years ago. Charles had liked all of the photos in the hotel, so asked the owner if he could have copies made for his students. We chose whichever ones we liked, not knowing a thing about the characters in the photos. For years I have wondered about the people in the photos! I am delighted that you spotted this and very grateful for the fantastic information from you. Perhaps you know who the man with the clay pipe was? It would be wonderful to know about him.

Thank you Lewis, Heather, Carole,Thalia for your kind comments on my portrait of - Henry Freeman, the Lifeboatman from Whitby. His name at last!

This was the very first watercolour I painted with the late Charles Reid. He gave a Crit every evening on our work that day. Terrifying, I can assure you! Such an Icon was going to crit my work in front of all the professionals present at his course.......aaaarrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhh! He was a lovely man, great artist and he will be missed so much by the Art World, as well as by me.
