Many thanks again for your kind comments. In reply to your question, Lionel, the painting took less than half an hour to complete as the washes were only intended as a loose underpainting to brighten the earth colours that I'd intended to paint over them, but I then thought it would be too fussy if I added more, so left it as it was. I think I was pleased with it as it was painted really freely and quickly as I hadn't expected these washes to show through very much. If only I could free up and paint like this all the time I'd be delighted, but I suspect it's a one off! I don't teach now, but used to do demonstrations for art groups some years ago. This is gorgeous and having written some of my blog diary about the Charles Reid course, I have studied this painting to relate it back to what Charles was trying to teach us. I can see just what you have got absolutely right and what has contributed towards it being such a successful painting. This is just super work.

Really like your work. I try watercolours but still like to draw the scene in ink and then a wash . I am try to be loose but find it dificult. I am using a stick dipped in the ink which I find loosens the drawing up . Well done on your art . Regards David
