From My Hands To Yours - Tips & Bits From Jay by Jay DePalma
Here's a look at an Audrey Hepburn pastel and colored pencil portrait in progress. This time I'm using a canvas 36"x48". Working on the skin tones can be a challenge and I find that by giving my subject a *basic coat or overall tone, I'm able then to increase my values as I go and it also makes it less intimidating. Try a light peach or flesh tone, either one should work. Think of it as applying makeup foundation and then move to the mascara, eye shadow etc..., you'll be surprise how well you do if approaching your drawings and painting this way.
