Beautiful portrait - absolutely love the way you have interpreted the subject with colour. Also like the way you have offset the image and let it drift off the paper - makes a much more interesting painting.

Your paintings give a lot of character to your subjects. The eyes are beautiful. Well done.

Have looked at these before and not been sure about them but the more I look, the more I like. Have you seen the work of Jean Haines? She's just done a tutorial in the last two SAA magazines in an almost identical style. I just looked for it because I thought it was you who had done it. Extremely skillful portrayal of the character of the dogs. I wouldn't know where to start with this style.

Hi Diana, Have just looked up Jean Haines, and just wish i could paint as well as her. She appears to paint in a much looser style than me. I only joined the SAA at the show recently. I have never liked using 'normal' colouring in my paintings, and even in my landscapes i tend to use a lot of purple ( a mix of violet and light red). I don't know about Jean, but when i start a painting, i sketch out only the eyes, then wet most of the area and drop colour in, my favourite being quinacridone gold and my purple mix....
