This now derelict 12th century Cistercian abbey is in Melrose in the Scottish Borders. It’s a beautiful and impressive sight, even though public access to the interior is currently prohibited for safety reasons. I was inspired to paint this after seeing Turner’s watercolour of the abbey from 1822. Watercolour on cold-pressed paper.
