A great start indeed. I love oils and don't worry about the solvents - probably because I often paint en plein air. I'm glad you've discovered water mixable oils; they will open up a whole new world for you!

That's great for a first oil painting - like the way youv'e scratched into the paint to get those grasses and branches.

My first oil painting. Been putting it off for years because of the solvents (eg. turps) and the odour, but for Christmas I got a starter set (six colours) of Cobra water-mixable oil paints. I painted this Cumbrian scene on cardboard coated with acrylic gesso.
