Very skilfully painted, James - the fur is amazing...

Beautiful animal and painted so well. I agree that the fur is particularly good.

Gorgeous Herdwick ram and those horns look amazing, beautiful features too! Such detail and lovely texture for the fur!

Beautiful. You’ve captured the fur and the horns in so much detail. Well done.

Lovely horns and expression!

This is fabulous James, especially the horns. What medium are you using?

Exceptional fine charcoal and pastel work James, very skilfully done.

Brilliant - that must have been a labour of love to draw all that fleece and the horns are great too - not easy to get the curls right.

Thank you for your comments. Much appreciated. Frank Bingley asked about the medium I used. The surface was Strathmore 500 Series Charcoal Paper, 30.5 x 45.7 cm, 95 gsm. Tonal variations were developed with blended layers of charcoal (General pencils) and white pastel before the final layer of unblended white pastel for the fleece. Horns were done with Faber-Castell pastel pencils. This portrait of a Herdwick tup was sold by auction to support a local hospice.

I love the way the horns stand out! Lovely
