Brilliant painting..

Super painting of the canal and the barge and great movement in the water as well

When I worked in Skipton many, many moons ago, I think that the white building at the far side of the bridge was a butchers shop (Stanforths?). Their meat pies were succulent, mouthwatering delicacies. Happy days! Thanks for generating the memory. Great painting too.

Thanks for your comments. Denis, I know the pork pie shop well and have to agree with you...

Lovely work once again Ian. I was on a watercolour workshop near Kettlewell at the start of the lovely weather and past through Skipton. The tutor was very keen on painting outdoors and no drawing with a penci! I've been trying to put that into practice since but now the weathers changed! I could just do with one of Denis's pork pies!

Beautiful little scene and nicely painted. There is nothing wrong with using a photograph as a source, it's how you interpret it that matters.

Oil on Board 8 x 6". Yes a miniature! good to get back to these smaller, more detailed paintings. I enjoy painting them and can get one finished (well almost) between dropping the kids off at school and picking them up. Plus I have a surplus of 8 x 6 canvas boards kicking around... and no more canvases... time to order some more! The view is the canal behind the castle at skipton, not in the YDNP, but as its called the 'Gateway to the Dales' it will slot into this catagory, it's painted from a photo I took on Friday last week in superb sunshine (two slaps on wrist, one for painting from a photo, and the other from taking the photo at midday). I know all the books say to wait until evening or early morning for the best light - but I wasn't there then was I? Honestly some purists!!!
