This is really effective Spencer. I really like the marbled effect as it does make me think of troubled sleep.

Thank you so much David. That’s the effect I was trying to achieve.

I agree with Spencer - this is where my head was last night!

Thanks Heather. That was true for a few of us last night!

Really like this Spencer.

Love your very economical but very expressive use of lines, Spencer. You've certainly conveyed the concept very effectively.

We've all been there ! very well portrayed Spencer.

I like the simplistic, almost comic book approach to this. Very good.

This is a very good technique, and well composed.

So cleverly composed and an excellent portrayal of insomnia Spencer.

Thank you Seok. I felt simplicity of form against the marbled background put across my thoughts far better than using colour throughout. Thanks Val. A lot of us have been there! Thank you Andrew. I’d agree it’s more comic book/pop art in style but it puts across the concept a little more accurately. Thank you for your great comments Lewis and Carole.

Brilliant work Spencer. Like the simplicity too 🙂

Really good mixed media Spencer.

I really do think you've got the makings of a really great artist even though you've only been painting a year or two. The subject matter and unusual ways of representation remind me of van gogh who in my opinion is one of the top 5 artists of all time. I don't mean your work is so similar to Vincent in style, I mean that you transform and transfigure nature which is what art is all about. I always deeply admire and respect artists who paint hyper realistically but though such work amazes me I much prefer a transformation of nature to the point where every picture is the within of the artist as a universe in himself. I see that in Vincent and I see it in your work. Hyper realism might take enormous skill and I respect that but when I see works like yours which are much more a personal record it moves me more.

Thank you so much for your very moving and personal comments Michael.

‘It’s 4a.m. If I get to sleep now I will have a couple of hours sleep. I will close my eyes tight and I might drop off!’ We’ve all been there! I marbled the background paper to represent the constant thoughts going through our minds. The design is painted in watercolour, acrylic and pen and ink.

About the Artist
Spencer Lambeth-Angell

I only took up painting during the lockdown so a lot of my work is experimental trying to find out what techniques work well for me. Decades ago I trained as a Primary School teacher with art and design as one of my subjects but textiles was my main area of work. I enjoy painting and drawing but am…
