Jo, it's a wonderful drawing. I know photo's are precious memories but I do like to see people's personal interpretations in drawings and paintings. Photo's don't always show the real personality. The lines around the eyes are so beautifully done and those eyebrows are fabulous! Have you thought about doing another version in ink? Well done anyway :o) I've had problems with photographing work before. (You know how it is, the camera flash can bleach it but artificial light makes it look yellow). I get slightly better results from scanning the work but that's not an option with the big stuff. I haven't got software for photo editing, but my camera has different settings to edit photo's once I've taken them, eg to shrapen the image or adjust colour. (I'm not sure if it would work with monochrome).

It's great to draw your your relatives, especially if you do it as well as this. Great to save in the family album too.

Thank you Kathryn and Carole for your kind comments. This is the first time my drawings have been seen by anyone other than family. Dad was all creases, jowls and eyebrows which made it harder to draw than I thought! I will try one in ink Kathryn and see how it goes. I have put copies of some of my drawings into scrapbooks which I have done for each member of my family, alongside the original photo. I will get around to viewing your portfolios which I am looking forward to.

This is a drawing of my Dad from a very old tatty photo that I have - the only one in fact. The background was just black with the edges merging. Some of it is from memory. Again, 2-4H pencil for outlining with several grades of B for shading and chamois cloth for blending. Some of the depth of pencil drawings is lost, I find, in downloading to the computer. It seems much more alive in reality. Is this normal or is it just my bad drawing practices!?
