Thank you Tessa. The texture you like is part of the boards surface. I make my own boards from MDF cut to size. I then paint on a couple of coats of gesso to seal the board (at least one coat on the back too). I then use a 50/50 mix of gesso and texture paste brushed on rather randomly to create a texture, no need to be precise just slap it on! Once dry I sometimes sand down any bits I don’t like and finally if I want a really white surface another thin coat of gesso, the gesso/texture paste mix can end up a bit off white.

Thanks for the info Alan. I like the effect. I used to use MDF myself with a few coats of gesso but felt that it seemed to eat paint as I use the WS oils! However I’ve not tried the texture paste- might have to give that a go! Nice work.
