I like this image....and I know this is going to be a stupid question, but how does this Quink / bleach technique work?

It's not a stupid question. You paint on the quink first onto watercolour paper, and probably let it dry, depending on what sort of effect you want. Then you paint your image using household bleach. The bleach reacts with the quink, bleaching it out. You can control the effect a bit depending on how much bleach you paint on, or by diluting the bleach a bit with water. Can be fun!

Thanks for the comment on my latest painting and I've answered your question in the comments. Thanks also for clarifying this quink / bleach technique. I guessed it was something like you described, but I'd not come across it before (although I think I've since seen someone else doing something similar applying the bleach with a cotton bud).

Yes, you can definitely use a cotton bud, but I'm too anal for that so just use a brush. Are you going to try it?

Loving the Cygnets Heather, so cute, i'm commenting here actually to thank you for your lovely words on my drawing of Lancaster Quay and how you really liked my drawing of Lancaster Priory as well, thanks so much for taking a look at those, you have obviously seen my summing up of our pretty horrendous trip out to collect my adult son from where is staying, he came back here for couple days and you were right about that experience of driving up there and the unbelievable snow conditions! the place he is stayi8ng at is in a village only reached by driving up country lanes that rise up quite steeply, and he is due to go back today! we will have to take him back as he only has a pushbike at the moment!, and of course there has not been enough time or enough of an improvement in the weather conditions for that snow to have gone, only hope there really is that local farmers have been out with their tractors with scoops on the front and cleared a decent track through otherwise we will just get as far as we can then son will have to walk rest of way!! he doesn't know that yet! craziest thing about it all is that back down at normal levels, where we are only talking about coming down a couple of hills, the road conditions are absolutely normal. Before any of that anyway i have to take my Labrador Retriever dog Rosie out for a walk in the bitter cold that we have here at the moment, and apparently are stuck with until Easter! anyway now i have rambled on a bit thanks again for your great comment xx

Quink and bleach - this is a copy of a greetings card image - I just wanted to practice the technique.
