This looks great to me Heather, it's ages since I have done a still life or even a watercolour come to that! I use pastels all the time these days, I would think pastel and watercolour wash will work well and your example of that seems to prove the point, well done

Thank you for showing us this. It's vibrant, colourful and exciting. I will definitely try it myself. Your still life set-up is very nice too.

Hi Heather. Thanks for the recent comments left on some of my paintings. Much appreciated. Ive seen a number of really attractive mixed media paintings and articles lately. I like the added textures and affects that different mediums can add. Your painting is basically watercolour with a subtle use of another media and I like the combination. Its colourful and loose which makes it a winner in my book.

You've used the medium to very good effect, particularly the fruit.

Wax crayon works well as a resist too. I think go with whatever works for the subject. I'm not a purist when it comes to watercolour I use all sorts to achieve what I want. This is great and there's nothing wrong with bright. If you want texture but no colour use candle wax or white crayon.

A new technique for me (suggested by a stand-in art teacher who was really good) - first draw using oil pastels, then watercolour wash over the drawing. I quite like the way the oil pastel gives the painting more texture, but it also makes it very brightly coloured so perhaps not so suitable for subjects where I would want to use a more subtle palette. What do others think? Do you like the technique? Have you used it? How could it be taken further?
