Caught in Sunlight by Owen Lloyd

Good tonal values there Owen. Going straight in with the brush results in much looser effect - more enjoyable too I think because each stroke matters.

Anyone that can use watercolour for portraits I take my hat off to them!

Lovely portrait Owen, nice skin tones and palette too. A nice natural expression with the sunlight effect!

Great job of all those lights and darks Owen. A lovely. natural portrait painted with zest.

A beautiful portrait. Lovely skin tones and great work on the shading of her clothing.

Morning Heather, Marjorie, Angela, Carole and Spencer. Thanks for your kind words. I'm happy with the looseness but I need to build my technique to improve the finish. I got drawn in by the clothing shadows which then meant more paint for the face to balance everything.

Watercolour A3ish. Freehand from a rare photo of my wife. Mostly painted with 3/4 and 1/2 inch flat brushes. Trying to stand back and get value shapes right rather than detail. Next time I will be braver from the start so that it doesn't get so overworked.

Started on Bob Ross. Great fun, fast and confidence building. Progressed to Mark Carder oils. The first time I could paint what saw. Now doing watercolour due to time restrictions. Sloooow progress.
