A wonderfully overcast day in Amsterdam. As the bicycle is red, this offered a rare opportunity to exploit cadmium red throughout this painting, pairing it with a series of teal greens as a stark opposite. The scene was particularly attractive to me as it offered such a plethora of negative shapes between the rigging, trees and railings. One of those paintings you wish you were still only half-way through! I really enjoyed painting this, can you tell?!
