Adult has conversation with teenager by Harriett Alice Richardson

Art bit - I painted the background, just kept it super simple, then photoed it and added the text and repeat symbols on the computer. xx The line is also painted, then I used that colour using the little colour selector thing on the computer program, this is why the text at the top is the same colour as the line xx

PS I dont even want to go to colege or uni. I just want to work in like the Co-op local or something. Everyone I know wants to change the world or something when they are older. I dont see the point of studying art as i can just paint what I want just now, and dont have to do paintings of naked men or vases of flowers or write million word essays about houses covered in bubble wrap. I notice when people comment on my pictures that lots of comments are future tense, things like 'one day', everyone seems to only be thinking about the future, i just try to do whatever im doing just now. PS that not meant rude, im really happy people take time to comment, thank you it means a lot to me, i just mean i notice adults always seem to think of the next thing. Sorry, not meant to offend or anything, just being honest xx I talk to Dad about time a lot, I think ill put one of those painting up soon. I have a good one of a watch that ill try to explain xx

We talk about your future because you have talent :)

I'm much (much) older than you, but oh I still remember this sort of conversation: people pile pressures on you without ever really meaning to; and of course you need TIME - the last thing you need is to be nagged and pressurized; this is the trouble with so much in the world today. I like your graphic, and I'm sure that many of us will understand it. Don't let it get you down - at 14 you need the time and space to think about what you want to do, and there shouldn't be any all-fired rush to make decisions. You have to be patient with adults - most of them mean well, most of them worry too much, and it can be hard to deal with. You're among friends here, though, and if we can help at all, we will. Keep showing your work, because that's what matters - and don't think you're the only one who has ever had trouble with adults; we were all young once, and we've all had our problems : the important thing is not to get depressed about it.

It's always occurred to me that your work is much more meaningful than just chocolate-box paintings of scenes etc. Art can be everything and anything you want it to be but I like it to be thoughtful and have a deeper communicative aspect - something that makes me think a bit more profoundly. Your work does that all the time. For me it illustrates an intellectual mind, not a job on the check-out at Sainsbury's, but as long as you're happy. I really enjoy your artistic philosophies. They are mature.

Michael has said it for me. That's why I just say carry on! I think someone said 'breath' of fresh air too ....

People do tend to ask what our plans are. A bit like my hairdresser who always asks if I'm going away on holiday this year. LOL

Harriet there are many like you going through the same thing in fact I'm sure we all have on this site! You will find your way eventually I'm sure you will you seem a very clever girl:). I like your art and it has been said, it makes one think and that's what it is all about. Keep posting we enjoy your art.xx

I would just like to add that Maths is good, the building block of most things. The good thing about it is that there is always a right answer unless you are researching the black hole. There is a comfort and thrill in getting the right answer!
