My god this is good! I have nothing more to say! Stunning.

Thats really kind. Thanks Tony.

Can't improve on Tony's comment, really ... it's a superb painting.

It's superb indeed. Love the sunlight and the pose.

love your work if there was a commandment about not covetting someones talent ,I'm afraid I have broken it., : )

Really grateful for all your comments. Many thanks. Gilly.

So good I had to come back for another look. The man even "looks" french! I hope he has seen this, he would be delighted. Probably buy it too! If William (above) covets your talent, I can only answer - get in line behind me!

This is brilliant, the light and shade and perspective on the chess board - it's almost photographic but you have given it a real depth. I love the light on his right hand. I agree Paris has so much to offer the artist, what about the flower and fresh produce markets!

Im so flattered by the kind comments. Thank yo so much. Tony: I took quite a few photo's of the chess players the last time I was at this park. It was over 2 years ago so I may have lost my chance of finding him. I have been to Paris since but didnt have the time to get to park for more images unfortunately. I'll be back soon and may find him there, who knows. It'd be lovely to show him the painting. I have another in progress of the girl who runs the stand for the minature boats at the pond. I also have a painting entered into the British National Portrait Award which is of a man who works at the Louvre. I am now in contact with him and he was delighted with his portrait. I'll post that image on here once I've heard from the gallery next month. Brenda: The flower and fresh produce markets is a great idea thanks. There is a wonderful fresh produce market literally next to where I stay when I visit my friends in Paris. If time and money permit anytime this year I will be back for another Paris hit, and certainly take my camera to market with me. Watch this space. In the meantime I have a several other Paris images to work from which I'm rather excited about.

Beautiful painting it is so very well done!

Acrylic on canvas. Jardin de Luxembourg in Paris is a truly inspirational place to be as an artist. With a variety of intriguing characters and the multitude of activities taking place in the park, it's difficult not to see a painting in all directions. Watching the variety of amateur chess players in the sun speckled shade of the trees is captivating, both as a chess player and an artist. This painting allows the viewer to appreciate the setting and perhaps get involved in the players next move.
