In a Corner of the Car Park the Poppies Still Grow
This painting was inspired by a visit to B&Q, where in a neglected corner of the car park I noticed poppies and ox-eye daisies growing amid the rubble. I am always thrilled when I find wild flowers breaking through the concrete jungle of modern towns. I used a variety of mark makers to show the complex weave of plants. I aimed to make the marks rich and textured and colourful, using thick paint, knives, etc
