Splendid..you obviously know your Rhode Islands! My dad was a breeder of champion RIR's, and they were his favourite breed...I'll tell you a little story, if I may....Mother, who was town bred, used to collect the eggs from the nests, in a bucket, night and morning. One morning this particular cockerel took umbrage and pursued her, striking out with those vicious spurs. She walked backwards all the way back to the cornshed, slinging the eggs she had collected, at him, as she went! Needless to say, no eggs were left in her bucket when she reached safety! We had many a laugh over that. Thank you, you have reminded me of days long gone.

Well here is a character Gerhard, and the attitude of this rooster sings out from the page

Oil on board - 30cm x 30 cm approx. This little oil was based on some of the chooks I used to keep. The hens were manageable, the rooster was a real piece of work (large spurs that were sharp combined with a nasty temper).
