Mussel Shacks - Ile d'Oleron - Oils on Wood Panel 24 x 20"
From a holiday snap in 2007. I have wanted to paint this scene for ages. I did not like the light in the photo as it was a bit flat, not my cup of tea as you will know by now . So I set it early morning to enhance the colours of the many multicoloured mussel and oyster shacks in this really evocative island just off La Rochelle. The whole area is a sprawling rather ramshackle maze of waterways and rickety wood and tin units littered with the debris of shellfish farming, but full of charm
