Like it Stuart, especially the sky and its' reflection.

Lovely misty effect.

I do like your painting Stuart, you have captured the moment perfectly, is this oil or acrylic?

Thank you all for the feedback. Painted in oils Patricia on a wooden panel 24 x 24"

I'm intrigued by your use of a wooden base for this painting as the effect and depth is very appealing. While I am a canvass devotee I have got some thin oak panels which have saved with a "one day I will paint on these" label. Love to know what you primed the panel with Stuart.

Hi Geoff, thank you for feeding back. I like canvas as well but I paint on boards for 3 reasons. 1. I like the firm surface and how the paint flows over it, I often use tissues and rags to move paint around especially when I want a very soft effect so the rigid panel helps me in that a little better. I only use canvas now for big paintings due to weight, or if I get a good deal/ 2. I paint a fair bit so I can save a lot money by buying a large sheet of 6mm beech hardboard and have the store I use cut it up into various sized panels. It can work out very economical indeed compared to decent canvas, especially as my favourite size is around 24" by !! various. I prime the boards with acrylic gesso (2-3 coats) with a light sand in between coats. I also apply a coloured ground of acrylic before painting. The boards are suitable suitable for acrylics or oils. 3.lastly I can store them easily standing up and being rigid can stand the odd knock, and I easily swap them into a display frame with spring clips. I am not convinced the wood panel affects the painting diffently to canvas but??

Thanks Stuart, I recently spent a couple of weeks on South Africa's east coast so will be uploading two paintings on canvas based on views from the trip shortly. I have others in progress so might get that sheet of 10mm oak and try it! Geoff
