White oriental poppy

Comments

Oh, I like this a LOT Carole. Super whites on white and that centre is so well painted too.

Beautiful, Carole, love the rich colours in the centre.

A fantastic painting, Carole. Perfectly painted white on white! I like it! What colour did you use for the 'white' shadows?

This is tricky with a light background! But you’ve pulled it off Carole.

Thank you Heather, Jenny and Mia. Mia, I initially drew the flower with Cretacolor graphite aquarell 8B, which gave a softness when wetted, then I used an extremely watered down Luna black by Daniel Smith, this gave a lovely grey soft shadow. I wouldn’t have thought of using a black but there was a bit on my palette so tried it. I used inktense bark and perylene violet for the dark centre shapes and the red centre was a mix of Poppy red, chilli red and when dry a touch of opera rose.. all trial and error :)

A beautiful flower beautifully painted Carole

So delicately painted.....beautiful.

Beautiful.

Super vivid centre against whites !

Carole this is absolutely gorgeous! The centre of the poppy especially......stunning.

Very beautiful and I was very interested to read the colours you used.

I love poppies, the centre is very dramatic against the white petals.

Beautifully done Carole - white on white!

Wonderful Carole, i love the contrast of delicate washes of the white against the strong centre colours.

Now that is so accomplished - white on white is some achievement.

Gorgeous Carole.

Thanks so much for all your encouraging comments I very much appreciate them.

Wonderful use of shading Carole. The splattering is so beautifully appropriate and the whole flower emanates elegant, delicacy.

Thank you very much Carole.

This is gorgeous

Thanks so much Gudrun and Romila.
