Hogweed

You have done a very good job with it Carole it shows your watercolour background but I like it a lot,

This is lovely, Carole. I like the vertical format very much, and the hogweed is beautifully observed. It is much more difficult to paint fine lines in acrylic, and you have done it well.

It has a subtle approach Carole, I love the gentle feel of your painting.

That vertical band of yellow works really well with this; Ruth is right, painting fine lines in acrylic isn't easy, or at least is harder to do than it is in watercolour. I'd recommend using Chromacolour acrylic, which can be diluted much farther than other acrylic brands (at least, those that I've tried). Quite an unpleasant plant, hogweed - avoid the sap; but you've brought out the best in it!

Thanks all for your kind comments. Ruth and Robert, you are right about the fine lines, nearly drove me crazy. Not heard of Chromacolour acrylic Robert, but sounds a good idea. Thanks again everyone.

Know nothing about acrylic, but agree with everyone that you are doing a beautiful job. If you use acrylic on paper, can you use the same techniques as watercolour?

A lovely painting Carole. I use Golden Liquid Acrylics and find that they can be used in exactly the same way as watercolours.

I agree with all the comments above. Beautiful work. Like Eddy, I know nothing about acrylic but this painting is as beautiful as all your other paintings! Well done.

lovely painting carole, i love the use of a limited palette and the subject is just beautifully portrayed. Whenever i use acrylic i use it as i would watercolour and make lots of glazes to get depth.

Brief note - you certainly can use acrylic as watercolour, and to try Chromacolour, visit www.chromacolour.co.uk; superb range of colours, and I bought the best Hake brushes I've ever used from that site as well. Modesty should forbid me to say that you might visit the contributing artists section on the website, but should you do so, ahem, I can be found there. I haven't, must be honest, ever used Golden Liquid Acrylics - would be interested if Christine could tell us more.

A really elegant painting; lovely format

Wow Carole this is superb! And just the second time ! Well done.

You certainly know how to handle acrylics especially if this is only your second attempt, a lovely delicate painting.

Carol i love the colours they work so well!!

Thanks so much for your kind comments and some really valuable information, I shall follow it all up. Really appreciate it. Best wishes for a lovely Christmas to everyone~~~~~Carole.

Absolutely lovely Carole! Pardon the late comment, I am currently on tour in Egypt with intermittent access to the internet and little time to spare in between tours, but I just couldn't resist logging in to comment on this little gem! I love the colors and how the interweaving lacework of the leaves, flowers and stems hold the whole painting together.

You lucky person Seok. We are shivering in sub zero climes here in England. You have warmed my day with your kind words, thank you so much for taking time out to leave your comment.

Acrylic, not my favourite medium, have only used it twice, should practice more. 32 x12"
