Thanks Fiona; there were some huge flocks over the coast back in November, but since then I’ve not seen so many. This group was the exception!

Happy New Year! Fieldfares in the hawthorns at Sutton Bank, North Yorkshire. These beautiful thrushes are winter visitors, though numbers vary; I haven’t seen many so far this winter. It’s impressive how such large, striking birds can almost vanish among a tangle of branches, berries and grey winter sky. Watercolour on Bockingford CP 14x10".
