Red Kite over Dartmoor
The preliminary plein air sketches were done when the sky was cornflower blue and studded with bright cumulus clouds, but I wanted to create a softer version of the scene, with moody distant showers and overcast light, witnessed on a previous walk, allowing the Red Kite to take centre stage. The Red Kite is not often witnessed here but the elevated viewpoints from Dartmoor's Tors allow one to actually see a bird’s eye view of its sweeping, open, panoramic scenes.
