Excellent watercolour painting Eleanor with great distance and the greens handled really well. Kite is painted fabulously. We often walk and sketch on Dartmoor as we live nearby and occasionally see Kites also.

The preliminary plein air sketches were done when the sky was cornflower blue and studded with bright cumulus clouds, but I wanted to create a softer version of the scene, with moody distant showers and overcast light, witnessed on a previous walk, allowing the Red Kite to take centre stage. The Red Kite is not often witnessed here but the elevated viewpoints from Dartmoor's Tors allow one to actually see a bird’s eye view of its sweeping, open, panoramic scenes. Winner of a TALP exhibition award 2020
