Bo, I underpaint with thin acrylics (quick drying), then continue in oils. Large areas eg sky sea and grass are applied with a brush. The rocks are built up more gradually with a painting knife. I add a quick drying medium which helps the initial drying of the thick paint, then overlay a different colour if needed. The spherical 'bushes' are again initially worked with brush, then a sort of stippling application of colour with some added texture medium. I hope this gives you some idea. Best wishes, Duncan.
