How did you get those little spots of detail, which add a swirl of interest around the two main shapes?

Hi Robert, no magic involved! Just lots of gradually darkening washes which are allowed to dry then additional applications of masking fluid in different areas. Repeat the process several tmes. When eventually you remove the masking fluid the spots will then appear in lots of different colours and tones. The hard bit was then to apply tiny shadows to each dot.....a real test of patience.
