You've sold it, eh? Well you're doing better than I am at the moment. Well done. I think the stem is fine - as for tips, well, I would call this a stylized drawing; not strictly accurate, but all the better for it; it's the design element that matters, and you have that - the twisting stem, the different shapes and sizes of leaf, the variation in colour. The method you've chosen - dry watercolour, then wash - works very well here; you can of course work with these pencils on dampened paper, can use them in conjunction with pan or tube watercolour, or with acrylic, or with ink, can selectively blot bits out with kitchen roll (never loo roll: try it, and you'll find out why) - try the lot. And more. See if you can get hold of a copy of How to Draw and Paint What You See, by Ray Smith - it was published by Dorling Kindersley. Google for watercolour lessons, on YouTube etc. But best of all, just paint and draw, and keep doing it.

This is my first ever attempt using any kind of watercolours. Its done with dry watercolours and then a water wash. I'm pretty happy with the rose itself, but not so sure about the stem. Having said that though I've sold this one so it can't be that bad hehehe! Would really appreciate tips on this pencil & wash style please! Drawn 3 May 2010. I am a true beginner so please be kind. Constructive criticism very greatly welcomed. Thank you all!
