Drawing and painting are great ways out of depression. With this one, just keep an eye on the respective thicknesses of branches and trunks, and remember that they're basically round, so it helps to show that = eg, in bracelet lines, where you follow the shape in your shading, using either the side of the pencil or even the point; or a pen. You have the right idea with foliage, in that you can't show every leaf, but try to vary the tone, the darkness, a bit, indicating the shadow areas and breaking up the clumps. Include holes for the birds to fly through, or for the peeping Tom up in the branches to get a good view of what they're up to down below. Try getting as much movement in your drawing instrument, or brush, as you can, so you don't make lines too heavy but sweep them in, holding whatever implement you're using by the end, or with your forefinger in line with the "barrel" - make shapes on odd bits of paper whenever you get the chance, scribble over your newspaper and annoy everyone... do what children do, ie draw over just about anything. Doodling is superb practice - because you don't even know you're doing it - as is cartooning. I like the strength in your drawing - don't lose that.

Charcoal & dry watercolour pencil drawing of a tree. Was feeling a bit down when I did this so it came out kind of spooky. Drawn 9 April 2010. I am a true beginner so please be kind. Constructive criticism very greatly welcomed. Thank you all!
