This was on tinted Ingres pastel paper, so the whole thing is not good start to unfinish

Love it Derek I would let it simmer if I were you

Don't bin it Derek, some of my best paintings were destined for the bin at some stage but got reprieved. This has all the potential for a good study, the suggestion of movement is good.

Derek there are some great shapes here, don't bin yet, put it to one side for a day or so.

I think this is great derek.

Thank you dennis, Peter, Fiona and Russ

...............things work out. Inspired by life sessions recently I thought I would do a loose version of a figure and took a reference library pic from Wet Canvas, why didn't I use one of my own life sketches? I wanted a dramatic pose and was going to paint marks rather than a body. Indiscriminately I chose this belly dancer, but liking the pose and the fabric was significant. I was pleased with the lace effect I unintentionally achieved with the fabric and it was a poor photo being very white, not skin tones. I painted straight with cad orange! and was going to place marks. The next session I waded in with the hair and then – why – I went for pastels and ended up with this overworked unfinished rubbish completely alien to the start ideas. The sticks are very difficult for me to handle and the shaky hand doesn't guarantee any accuracy, so it has taken me sessions over 4 days to get this far and the background is too heavy, the wrong colours and....well? It is binned and I wil

Eleventyeight as my hashing pals called my new age recently, it's supposed to sound better. Trying to paint every day in acrylics using only expired credit/debit cards, and partially succeeding as they're only for me and not show these days.
