I like this, it's very mysterious and atmospheric! Very successful use of techniques to get that kind of dark smokey atmosphere.

Thanks Margaret. The inital dark tones were set using a roller and various colours on the palette, I very rarely set out colours to suit the image I intend.

Super painting Derek love it

Fantasy of color,light &air Derek

Thank you Gudrun and Ivan

Atmosphere, atmosphere, atmosphere! Derek, have you done one of Miles or JC?

Thank you Frank, but no.
I have a study using Ray Charles on at the moment, but you'd never recognise him, not the point really, want more of that atmo stuff.

Tremendous skill showing here Derek, a superb composition, such a different angle.

Thanks Alan. Being a jazz fan I can look back on many happy concerts when I saw many of the greats in concert at Newcastle City Hall in the 50/60s.
I have a pencil drawing of Herb Ellis who signed it on the back for me when he visited the Concorde Club near Southampton, and Cole the boss introduced me at the interval.

Fantastic atmosphere here Derek! Who would have thought that the dreaded mud colour could work so beautifully!

MUD? Mud? mud? Those tones are made up from the spread on my palette using a roller I'll have you know Satu, thanks very much....LOL.

Nice one thanks, I am patenting Mud in my next autumn range of tubes.

It's a great shade of mud Derek. Really good.

Like this different

Well done, Derek - I can hear the mellow tones of the saxophonist from here!

One of your best so far Derek. Those square shapes at the top and sharp angles work so well against the figures. Also, the specks of blues and pinks against the darks are perfectly placed. Now I've just spotted the circular round shape, top right. An exciting painting which I keep looking at and like a lot!

I love this again Derek its got your great style written all over it .

Thanks Janet, Ruth, Wib, Louise and dennis.

Really like this atmosheric painting Derek....a great piece of work!!

Eleventyeight as my hashing pals called my new age recently, it's supposed to sound better. Trying to paint every day in acrylics using only expired credit/debit cards, and partially succeeding as they're only for me and not show these days.
