Another really good semi abstract painting Derek.

I like the foreground textures here Derek. Why do you want a smooth sky? Smooth is boring. I like this streaky one.

I like the sky too but when I'm looking for a uniform block of colour try some gouache or painting another layer can help.

Thanks Christine, Kal and Hayley. Will try to iron it out as I need to learn the technique, fo future work if necessary.

Don't know how to solve the problem Derek but I quite like the effect. You've created a cold and unforgiving landscape here.

I rather agree with Kal and Fiona that the sky effect actually works extremely well. In a more figurative, directly representational painting it wouldn't, of course, unless the streaks were more horizontal & not echoing the skyline of the mountain. But of course that's not what you asked!! Acrylics are not my forte, but it looks to me as though the mixing of Prussian blue with white on the palette hasn't been as thorough as it might. If you're after a dense, smooth, untextured area, I'd probably experiment with layering with thinned acrylic - starting off lighter/whiter then overglazing with more transparent, bluer layers. But I'm certainly no expert!!

Lovely Derek and for a flat layer thin and a large flat is one way to try

Can't advise about acrylics, but I can say that I really like the solidity and presence of your mountains. I also like the variety of colours you have found in the rocks - makes for an interesting painting. Actually, the sky looks fine to me, but what do I know!

Thank you Fiona, Bill, dennis and Thea. Have some ideas so will play over the weekend - maybe. It does bug me though so will probably try to change the sky

Like Thea I am not the person to advise on acrylics Derek, but I like the stylized sky.

Thanks Carole, it's not meant to be stylized, that's my problem.

Please don't change the sky Derek! It goes so well with the mountain which is impressive. The gentle swirl of the sky compliments the foreground .

A very interesting painting

37 x 24cms on paper, made for acrylics, but when I want a dense smooth untextured area like the Prussian Blue sky it's always streaky, anyone know what I am doing wrong?

Eleventyeight as my hashing pals called my new age recently, it's supposed to sound better. Trying to paint every day in acrylics using only expired credit/debit cards, and partially succeeding as they're only for me and not show these days.
