This is a lovely sketch Denis, great little details, good sense of depth into the scene

Both your sketches are interesting Denis, with good composition and effective use of line. thanks for displaying them

What a beautiful sketch, love the detail and composition.

Another great sketch, love the composition

So much information , so beautifully done. Thanks for posting, a joy to look at.

Your pen and washes are superb. I am still trying to master the technique and your work is providing lots of food for thought. Keep them coming!

Fabulous sketch. What sort of pen do you use?

I use a variety of technical pens. I find that they provide me with what I need - something which slips into my pocket and has a good supply of waterproof ink . The nib is not flexible and the line it produces is uniform unlike a dip pen, but I find it suits my purpose. At present I am using an Edding1800 with a .07 nib. I also use Staedtler pigment liner .07 and Artline Drawing System .08 - in fact whatever I can get hold of when I need a new one. Most of my sketches are done on my knee using one hand to hold the book and one to hold the pen. When I work on a bigger scale, I use an easel and draw with a strip of balsa wood and hold a bottle of Indian Ink in the other hand. I have to be careful when I work like this! Indian Ink is deadly stuff and can be guaranteed to ruin clothing.

One of the great experiences I have had stems from a chance meeting with an American artist who lives in a delightful part of New England. I accepted an invitation to paint over there and meet some of her artist friends. This sketch was made sitting near the edge of Gloucester harbour. Wonderful timber framed houses, lots of boats and superb doughnuts!
